PEDALGOGY LAUNCHES NEW EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE - TED WEB

(Adapted from May's edition of The International Educator)

Biking Around the World on a Mission

Two international school teachers are about to embark on an around the world bicycle ride, with an educational focus.

Niamh Conway from Ireland and Matthew Good from England, who are currently teachers at Tashkent International School in Uzbekistan are heading out of town on June 11th for a little jaunt across 18 countries and approximately 18,000 kilometers.

They are motivated by a philanthropic purpose as they will be raising money and awareness for Prader-Willi Syndrome as well as building an online Global Citizenship resource for students to learn about other cultures and places.

Since the story in the February publication of the TIE about their adventure, the pair have raised more than $6000 for the UK based charity www.pwsa.co.uk through a school based ‘Cyclothon’ event during which over 100 people from the school community took part in riding sponsored laps.

They are hoping to visit international schools along their route in order run Global Citizenship workshops with students, adding to their educational website www.tedweb.org . This website is currently the basis of a school club where elementary school students, guided by secondary school students collect badges by completing tasks such as Story Telling, Reading, Drawing, Translating, Volunteering & Caring. Students can also work towards a Green Hero, Peace & Gardener badge. The activities carried out by student participants are showcased on this colourful and interactive site. If you think that your school may be interested in a full day session or as contributors to this project, contact: info@pedalgogy.net
